Metropolitan Ambulance Service began introducing
the Ford F-350 into service in 2003

With the GMCs no longer available on the Australian market, the Victorian Ambulance Service in the late 1990's began looking for alternatives.  One option was the Mercedes 312 which was poorly accepted by staff due to it's poor performance.  In 2003,  both MAS & RAV initially purchased 6 GMCs (3 for each Service) and retrofitted the rear modules off the aging GMCs.  Further vehicles were purchased but due to cost, numbers were limited.    These have now been phased out with the newer and far improved Mercedes 318 Sprinter.
